Lewis G. Burton is a London based DJ, performance artist and activist. They co-founded performance art platform come queer techno rave INFERNO. As an extension of INFERNO Burton curated a two-day seminar exploring the intersections between performance art, nightlife, music and queerness entitled the INFERNO SUMMIT in February 2018. 2019’s INFERNO SUMMIT will take place on 9th November. They currently a member of collective Pxssy Palace as well as organising London Trans+ Pride 2020 with activist Lucia Blake.
Burton will be debuting their first EP ‘Pain Relief’ in late November/early December 2019 and releasing their first single ‘Hermaphrodite’ (pronounced herm-aphrodite, like the greek goddess of beauty and love) in later October 2019. The music video for the track is creatively directed by collective Fecal Matter and features a brilliant cast of Londons Trans+ and Intersex community.
Burton has been working on INFERNO for five years now. INFERNO has grown into a community space giving a platform to emerging artists and DJs as well as showcasing new works by resident performance artists and special guests alike. INFERNO prioritises and champions queer, trans*, non-binary and femme identifying DJs.
Burton achieved notoriety a couple of years ago in both the art world and public sphere with their project ‘FLESH’ (a collaboration with Victor Ivanov). Their most recent performance piece ‘I’m afraid of men like you’ was commissioned by SHOWstudio for their most recent project entitled ‘Queer’. They have been a practicing performance artist for 8 years now and they’ve performed at institutions such as Barbican, ICA and Tate Modern. A full detailed performance CV is available on request.
As a DJ Burton gained a loyal following playing on Londons LGBTQ+ scene. They now travel the world and play at raves across Europe such as Paris, Berlin and Lisbon as well as in their hometown London. As well as touring internationally in places like India. They’ve worked with brands and charities such as Adidas, Stonewall, Napapirji, Charles Jeffery, Diesel and many, many more. Burton organised, casted and performed in Fecal Matters S/S19 collection in London in October 2019.
